Privacy Policy

WineMate (“the app”, “we”) is a personal wine app. This policy explains what personal data we process, why we process it, and what rights you have.

1. Data controller

The data controller for WineMate is the publisher of the app. Contact: hello@getwinemate.com.

2. What data we process

• Website waitlist: email address you provide to be notified when WineMate launches on the App Store (iPhone).
• Account: email address and authentication data via Supabase Auth.
• Profile: display name, preferences, onboarding answers, optional profile photo URL.
• Wine journal: wines you log, notes, photos, favorites, and wishlist.
• Chat: messages you send to WineMate, including any images you upload.
• AI memories / taste profile: derived preferences used for personalization.
• Technical data: necessary logs for operation and troubleshooting at our service providers.
• Product analytics: anonymized or pseudonymous usage events (for example app opens, feature use, and subscription funnel steps) via PostHog. We do not send chat message content, journal notes, wine names, emails, or payment tokens to analytics.

3. Purpose and legal basis

• Website waitlist — consent when you sign up on the website.
• Providing the app (account, journal, chat, recommendations) — performance of a contract.
• Personalizing wine advice — legitimate interest / consent where relevant.
• Security, error correction, and abuse prevention — legitimate interest.

4. Camera and microphone

The app may request access to the camera (barcode, label photo, journal images) and microphone (voice input for your journal). Data is used only for the feature you activate, and is not uploaded unless you send or save it in the app.

5. Service providers

• Supabase — database, authentication, storage, and Edge Functions.
• OpenAI — processing chat, image, and transcription requests via our server functions. API keys are not stored in the app.
• Vinmonopolet (public API) — product search when you search for or scan wine.
• Google Play — app distribution and Premium subscription billing on Android.
• PostHog — product analytics (EU hosting when configured). Used to understand feature usage and improve WineMate.

6. Retention

Data is stored for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, associated user data is deleted according to the app’s deletion features.

7. Your rights

You can export data, delete chat, AI memories, your taste profile, or your entire account in the app under Settings → Privacy and GDPR. You may also contact us for access, correction, or to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Children

WineMate is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data about minors.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be communicated in the app or on this page.
